Abstract
There are policies in China which stipulate that some specific social groups in the country are entitled to preferential treatments in education, taxation, employment, etc. The article argues that adding scores for the students with ethnic minority background is just reflecting one of these policies, the purpose of which is to maintain the normal running of the state machine.
