Abstract
Image Tensor Analysis (ITA) is a numerical process that utilises digital video footage to determine the transient deformation of material samples. When applied to a fibro¬porous media like bagasse, the process output contains measured fields of local deformation and associated parameters. Footage of bagasse captured from both uniaxial and rolling experiments has to date been analysed using the procedure. ITA tracks the motion of a surface of a bagasse sample as it experiences deformation. As such, it provides validation data for comparison with finite element solutions of the crushing process, which employ material yield criteria and hardening relationships to predict the sample deformation. This paper reports on the technique, application and practical limitations of IT A as an image analysis tool.
