Abstract
The situation in Australia which does not legally prohibit consensual sexual relationships of lawyers with their clients is discussed. A brief review of the status quo is examined in Part A of this discussion. This will include an overview of the arguments against the introduction of a rule to regulate lawyer-client sexual relationships. Part B considers arguments in support of the introduction of legal intervention to the issue. Parallels with other professions are drawn in Part C as well as a comparison with the position taken in other jurisdictions. Part D explores a possible framework for the regulation of lawyer-client sexual relationships.
