Abstract
Most undergraduate digital media design students launch directly into professional careers after graduation in a wide range of areas in the creative industries. Students usually work as a web or multimedia designer, interface or information designer, graphic designer for print media, or in the moving image or animation industry. While it is important for students to acquire the appropriate technical skills during their study to enter the profession, for example proficiency in several software packages, it is critical to also develop the communicative competence of their work. Digital media design students need to be able to convey information through visual solutions, should be able to understand the demands of clients and the needs of the public (Storkerson,2008), and also be able to reflect on their social and cultural impact.
