Abstract

The future of Lake Victoria and its people is highly related to the future of its papyrus wetlands. This appears to be threatened by the overdrawing of water at two dams at the outlet of Lake Victoria in Uganda, which can lead to wetland loss, tilapia fisheries collapse, enhanced eutrophication of the lake, loss of food security for the empoverished population, and a measurable contribution to global warming.
