Abstract

This paper looks at three successful collaborations between university, industry and community partners involving total funding of AU $6 million. The author has developed and coordinated three interlinking projects aimed at researching and developing successful strategies to improve ICT skills at different levels in North Queensland, Australia. The first project, 'Rural and Remote IT Stars' involved live-in hands-on workshops and career information evenings for secondary students. The second project 'Islander Watch' involves improving the telecomm11nication infrastructure of the Torres Strait Region and employs research to inform the development of ICT training in this particular context. The third project involved promoting awareness of the Northern Gulf centres of Karumba and Normanton through the development of multimedia classroom resources.
