Abstract

The Asian financial crisis resulted in a sharp economic downturn in Thailand's economy in ]997 and 1998. However, the Thai economy has registered reasonable growth in recent years. There has also been a signit1cant increase in exports as a percentage of the GDP. While examining the performance of the Thai economy before and after the crisis, this paper attempts to examine the factors that contributed to the Asian financial crisis. The paper also suggests policies that may help to reduce the risk of similar crises in the future.
