Abstract

A simple method for the design of ultra wideband antennas is presented. This method is used to design a slot antenna without dielectric, an LTCC based antenna and a sandwiched LTCC based antenna. Results of simulations show that the designed slot antenna has a 10-dB return loss bandwidth from 1.5 to more than 20GHz with near omnidirectional characteristics up to about 20GHz. In turn, the LTCC based antennas have a bandwidth which is 2-11.8GHz for first type and 1.9-11.6GHz for the other type and can be further increased after optimization. The designed antennas have a radiation efficiency which is higher than 90% over the whole lOdB return loss bandwidth.
