A very large number of synthetic tropical cyclones has been modelled to produce return period curves for storm tide (surge plus tide plus wave setup) levels from the population of tropical cyclones that threatens the Sunshine Coast in Southeastern Queensland. The modelling system has several components: The tropical cyclone track and pressure model produced a very large ensemble of synthetic time series of cyclone position and central pressures. The tropical cyclone wind field model produced temporal and spatially varying winds for each of the synthetic storms. The ensemble was modelled by storm surge and wave generation models. An empirical method was used to determine the wave setup time series during each storm. Surge and wave setup time series were linearly combined with a large number of tide time series to produce storm tide time series for 3000 years of record.
