Abstract

The objectives of this research are to (1) evaluate the different curing methods in order to find the simple and best curing method for UCS samples made of CPB, and (2) assess the variability of mechanical properties of CPB. Five different curing methods are evaluated using 28 and 56 days UCS data from samples tested in duplicate, considering the UCS, Young’s modulus, moisture content and degree of saturation. In the second part of the paper, 25 identical CPB specimens from each of the three different mixes were tested to assess the variability of UCS and Young’s modulus of CPBs. Curing by Method 1 achieved high UCS and Young’s modulus, with low variability in the test data, suggesting better reproducibility. It is recommended that CPB specimens for UCS tests be cured by Method 1, where the specimen is contained within the plastic mould and placed in a covered bucket with 2 cm water at the bottom.
