Abstract

The contribution made by Ludwig Leichhardt to Australian botany is examined with reference to his collections and their use as types. About 2800 specimens collected by Leichhardt were located, of which at least 78 specimens have been designated as types. Leichhardt's records of species distribution, and manuscript names, are also examined. Forty-nine eponyms, named for Leichhardt, are listed.
