[Extract] To describe the unique features of a GeoPark and explore the development of a GeoPark in the south-west of Ireland

• To examine the target market for geotourism and apply segmentation criteria to the geotourism sector • To explore the opportunity that European GeoPark certification offers to a tourist destination struggling to attract visitors to a GeoPark in a competitive marketplace • To explore the role of training and communication in increasing the environmental awareness of the local community along with their understanding and appreciation of their area • To explore the importance of a grass-roots approach in empowering tourism operators to conserve, manage and promote a GeoPark • To examine the management challenge
