Abstract

Geological logging of drill-cores is a crucial step towards 3D modeling of mineral deposits because the accuracy and precision of the former influence the quality of the latter. This process usually includes visual logging of lithology and structures along a drill-core. In order to check and increase the accuracy and precision of drill-core geological logging, it is desirable to measure and model the distribution of another property (e.g., chemical content) of drill-cores for correlation with and revision of drill-core geological logs. In this research, we correlate geological logs with geochemical models of distribution of element concentrations along drill-cores. For geochemical modeling, we applied the number-size (N-S) fractal model. This involves recognition of thresholds using a log-log plot of element concentrations versus their numbers, was applied for accurate classification of element concentrations along each drill-core. In this research, drill-cores in the Zaghia iron ore deposit, anomaly 2C, Central Iran, were studied and drill-core geological logs were improved by correlation with N-S fractal models of geochemical data.
