Abstract
[Extract] Aqueous extracts of some alcyonarian soft corals (Cnidaria, Octocorallia) are toxic to fish (COLL et al., in press) and some soft corals inhibit the growth of neighbouring scleractinian corals (SAMMARCO et al., in press). We have recently shown (COLLL and SAMMARCO, in press) that low levels of pure terpenes derived from soft corals kill selected scleractinian corals. This report details some preliminary results on the effects of soft coral derived terpenes on respiration and photosynthesis in several scleractinian corals.
