Abstract

[Extract] Sexual health education should start with children within the family, then be covered in school education. The reality, however, is that the promotion of sexual health to individuals is largely contingent on seizing opportunities as they present. In Australia, the bulk of this work will occur at the level of primary health care, which is dominated by general practitioners (GPs). They will be aided in this by various other agencies, including sexual health clinics, family planning services, Aboriginal health organisations, student health clinics, and so on. The Medicare funding arrangements offer subsidised - or, with bulk billing, free to the individual - medical services, and this provides Australians with ready access to some of the best and most affordable health care in the world.
