Abstract

[Extract] Towards the end of the title essay in "Bad Aboriginal Art", Eric Michaels reveals that despite the promise of the heading he never intended to give criteria for discerning good art from bad. Instead, he argues, what is significant are the 'social pracitces that produce and circulate them - practices that promote issues of authroity, not authenticity' (p. 160). This theme is explored throughout this new collection of Michaels' articles originally published between 1986 and his death in 1988.
