Abstract

This paper reviews the status of land tenure and related rights and responsibilities, in northern Australia and the influence these have on investment security and opportunities for economic development. It has been prepared at the request of the North Australian Ministerial Forum (NAMF) and under the direction of its Expert Advisory Panel (EAP) to inform future policy development and implementation on land tenure. In preparing this report, broad but preliminary consultation with government, Indigenous, community and industry stakeholders has been undertaken. The scope of the report does not extend to aspects of tenure associated with coastal and marine environments.
