Abstract

[Extract] The University of the West Indies established the first Chair in the world in Education & HIV/ AIDS in 2005, with the support of UNESCO and the Commonwealth Secretariat, to promote teaching, research and public service in this emerging field. The first chair holder, Professor David Plummer, designed a professional degree following extensive regional and international consultation. The graduate programme in Health and Human Relationships, Masters in Education (Health Promotion), outlined in this chapter, was approved by the university in June 2006, and the first cohort of 30 enrolled in December 2006.
