Modelling the performance of buildings subjected to severe natural hazards has become an important part of modern catastrophe insurance analysis and is becoming increasingly important in structural engineering with the development of performance based design. Vulnerability models are an important part of this. This paper reviews the history of wind vulnerability models and their current state of development, and the anticipated direction of future developments as the modelling becomes more based on structural behaviour and less based on empirical relationships derived from observed performance.
