Abstract

[Extract] Of the 19 contributors to this edited text, nine are from Australia, five from Britain, three from America and one each from Canada and New Zealand, making the 'internationality' of the perspectives of the title somewhat limited. The case studies are, with the exceptions of Russia, Fiji and South Africa, located in the contributors' countries. The book draws on evidence from one international resort, 11 hotels, four fast food outlets, two national tourism organisations and one tour company. Seventeen chapters are divided into three human resource management (HRM) functions, labelled 'Employee Resourcing', 'Employee Development', and 'Employee Relations', following British Chartered Institute of People Development (CIPD) practice. An introductory chapter focuses on issues and priorities. Each subsequent chapter follows a standard format of abstract, introduction, analysis of the issue, case study, discussion, conclusions and self-assessment questions.
