Abstract

While research has been seen to perpetuate rather than improve the ongoing health disadvantage of Indigenous Australians, more recently we have witnessed a transformation in the way research is undertaken with Indigenous people. A more collaborative and inclusive approach has made research more appropriate to the needs of Indigenous people and more Indigenous people undertaking higher research study. Insights about research with Indigenous people are provided by four Indigenous students undertaking research in health and nursing who discuss 'closing the gap', cultural care, and the current situation surrounding access to and experiences in the health service in Australia for Indigenous people.
