Abstract

The 7th Asian Congress of the International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA) – formerly IIRA – took place in Bali, Indonesia, on 20 – 23 September 2010. It was co-organized by UNI-Global Unions Asia-Pacific with the support of numerous sponsors including the ILO and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. The Congress focused on four main areas: Track 1) industrial relations in a globalizing Asia; Track 2) responding to the Global Financial Crisis (GFC); Track 3) partnership at work; and Track 4) green jobs and the future world of work. All contributing papers were simultaneously presented on day three, making it impossible to follow all the tracks. This report will focus mainly on the second track, the unions’ response to the GFC.
