Abstract

Peter F. Jensen’s The Revelation of God, the most recent contribution to the Contours of Christian Theology series, offers a distinctively evangelical approach to the doctrine of revelation.1 In this work Jensen is concerned with what has traditionally been called ‘theological prolegomena’, that is, with the explication of the method and principles of Christian theology as a whole and, more particularly, with the problem of how human beings come to know God. In the discussion that follows I will first outline the main features of Jensen’s method within its broad theological context, and secondly I will provide a positive evaluation of this method. Finally I will offer some criticisms of the doctrine of revelation that Jensen develops in connection with his method.
