Abstract

The timing of seed production is documented for 86 species of eucalypt savanna of the Townsville region, north-eastern Queensland. Savanna trees and shrubs generally produced mature seed between the mid dry season (June) to the wet season (December to March); trees and shrubs more typical of rainforest, as well as subshrubs and ephemeral forbs, seeded throughout the dry season; and upright and twining perennial forbs, grasses and non-grass monocots throughout the year. Species that also grow in the northern Territory tended to extend seed production further into the dry season on the east coast.
