The flow development in a water-filled wedge subjected to constant cooling through the water surface is visualized based on a three-dimensional numerical simulation. The results show three distinct stages of the flow development, namely an initial growth stage, a transitional stage and a quasi-steady stage. It is also revealed that the flow experiences a transition from two-dimensionality to three dimensionality while it moves from the initial stage onto the transitional stage.
